The State Government fully supports the Sabah Labour Ordinance (SLO) amendment to ensure that the people and the industrial community in Sabah can enjoy better and equal economic benefits and opportunities like other states in Malaysia.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said OBS was enforced starting in 1950. After 40 years, the first amendment to the ordinance was made in 2005.

He said 19 years is a long period, and the law needs to be reviewed and improved, especially the law involving employees' welfare and employers' needs to conduct business.
"There is no doubt that a more up-to-date law will be able to attract more foreign companies to come and invest more confidently and comfortably in Sabah.
"This amendment is also timely because the State Government is in dire need of labour legislation that is relevant and suitable to the current labour situation," he said at the State-level Labour Day Tripartite Celebration 2024 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here, Tuesday.
