LAHAD DATU: The Local Authority (PBT) and the cleaning concession is taking effective approaches to overcome the issue of garbage and cleanliness in this district.

District Officer, Firuz Idzualdeen Mohd Dzul said the issue of cleanliness whether on land or along the coast, needs attention so that the efforts would bear fruit.

“We hope that the efforts we plan and implement to maintain cleanliness for this district will receive support and cooperation from the community.

“All parties should be together in this matter so that our district is clean and beautiful, while providing comfort and improving the image of Lahad Datu,” he said at a Gotong Royong Madani programme and the Cleanest Village Competition at Lahad Datu water villagers.

It was organised by Syarikat Amwil Deslen Management & Supplies PLT and MDLD.

The programme at Kg Puyut Village Hall focused on efforts to clean coastal residential areas and set an example for other villages.

Organising Chairman Christopher Chin said the goal of organising the programme was to instil the right attitude and increase awareness among the community, especially coastal residents not to throw garbage into the sea.

He said through the programme the residents were taught how to separate recyclable and non-recyclable waste.

“As a continuation of this programme, we will create another programme which is a plastic exchange programme for every two weeks to encourage the community to adopt recycling practices.

“This plastic exchange programme allows residents to collect plastic waste such as plastic bottles and bring them to the community hall and exchange for money,” he said.

Christopher hoped that the efforts carried out by his company together with PBT would be able to overcome the problem of garbage dumping and improve the cleanliness of the district.

A total of 617 residents from Kg Puyut, Kg Air, Kg Bakau, Kg Panji and Kg Bakau Jaya Baru took part in the gotong royong to clean the coastal residential areas.
