Don’t spread false stories

Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who is also Sabah Football Association (Safa) president, called on all parties to play an active role not to spread false stories on social media platforms.

This followed claims that the attacks on the three national footballers recently was the result of provocation started on social media among football fans.

“We are somewhat shocked and saddened by the three attacks that have occurred so far and we hope that this matter will no longer continue and will not spread.

“At the same time, we are also taking precautions to ensure that our players are safe so that they feel calm and can focus on playing in the league starting this weekend,” he said.

He also said it is important that stories posted on social media are based on clear and complete facts.

“Football fans through their activities on social media must to try to stop spreading unclear and  invalid views.

“Together we must play a role in ensuring football development in our country can be carried out in a good and professional manner.

“Whatever the accusations or provocation are, they will not bring any benefit to the development of football, so I recommend that all sports enthusiasts, and those on social media to play an important role in creating a positive atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, Shahelmey who was present at the unveiling of the Sabah FC jersey for the 2024/2025 season in a ceremony held at Hilton Hotel here on Thursday, hoped naming the new jersey “Tagap” in accordance with the description of Sabah people, will motivate the team this season.

He also thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, the State Government and the main sponsor Jetama Water as well as Sabah Energy, Asian Supply Base, Qhazanah, Sabah Credit Corporation and others for their support.

Also present at the ceremony were deputy speaker Datuk Haji Al Hambra Tun Juhar, Safa deputy president Datuk Awang Kadin Tang, vice president Datuk Alijus Sipil, Sabah FC team manager Rafie Robert and Sabah FC director Mohd Joh Wid.
