KOTA BELUD: A 16-year-old girl who was reported missing while swimming with her family in Sungai Kadamaian near the Kg Pirasan and Kg Piasau border was found dead on Monday.
Khairunnisa Ann Kembarudin’s body was found on Monday some 3.5 kilometres from where she was last seen.
The discovery was made at 3.54pm through a joint effort of local villagers and rescue personnel.
Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station Chief Muhammad Syazwan Latun said police pronounced the teenager dead at the scene before transferring her to Kota Belud hospital.
The search and rescue operation, which employed various techniques including diving, surface searches and boat patrols, was conducted with the cooperation of the Civil Defence Force, police, and local community members.
Operations ended at 5pm.
The incident happened on Sunday at 3.55pm near the border of Kampung Pirasan and Kampung Piasau.
The family, who are residents of Nabawan, had been visiting their hometown in Kampung Pirasan.
The tragedy unfolded shortly after they had visited the grave of Khairunnisa’s late father.
