Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained an enforcement assistant from a government agency in one of the districts in the State suspected of soliciting and receiving approximately RM11,000 in bribes from a company.

According to sources, the suspect, in his 30s, was arrested at 4.30pm when giving a statement at the MACC office here on Tuesday.

It is understood that the bribes were received as an inducement not to take action against the company’s lorries that committed road offences.

Sabah MACC Director Datuk S. Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
