Seek electricity legally
Yusmanizam advised the public and community leaders to report immediately if they detect any illegal connections in their areas for immediate action by Sabah Electricity. 
KOTA KINABALU: Disrupting electrical infrastructure will pose a serious safety hazard to the public, and illegal connections can lead to short circuits, fires and even electrical shocks that can endanger lives and property. 

In this regard, Sabah Electricity advises the public to apply for electrical supply through legal channels and avoid carrying out fraudulent electrical installations.

Chief Operating Officer, Ir. Ts. Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof, said that Sabah Electricity also hopes for strong cooperation from the authorities and related government departments to continue providing support in combating illegal electrical activities that can be fatal to the perpetrators. 

He also said that Sabah Electricity had carried out hundreds of operations to combat electricity theft or illegal connections to curb and control such activities.

“Illegal and unsafe electrical connections by squatters increase safety risks such as fires from short circuits and electric shocks,” he said in a media statement on Friday.

Therefore, he advised the public and community leaders to report immediately if they detect any illegal connections in their areas for immediate action by Sabah Electricity. 

“For 2025, Sabah Electricity will intensify these integrated operations throughout Sabah and ensure that those involved in electricity fraud will be brought to court and appropriate action taken in accordance with the relevant legal provisions,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mohd Yusmanizam thanked all departments and agencies involved in helping Sabah Electricity combat electricity fraud activities.
