KOTA KINABALU: Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau has proposed that the Higher Education Ministry introduce a Kadazandusun Language Education Programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
UMS currently offers Kadazandusun language courses for interested students and an established Kadazandusun Chair.
However, there is no dedicated teacher education programme for Kadazandusun language instructors, prompting the Tuaran MP to suggest expanding it at UMS, similar to Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Upsi).
He made the proposal during the Committee Stage debate under the Higher Education Ministry at the Dewan Rakyat.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud welcomed the suggestion, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to strengthening ethnic languages, particularly in Sabah.
