MMC Act comes into effect on National Journalists’ Day
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Media Council (MMC) Act officially comes into force today (June 14), in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) 2025, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

“This symbolic move marks our commitment to strengthening journalism,” he said at the Hawana 2025 event, themed “Journalism in the New Era: Embracing AI, Safeguarding Ethics.”

Officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the event gathered over 1,000 media practitioners.

Fahmi said he would soon meet with the 12-member founding board of the MMC, expressing hope that the council remains a lasting institution “regardless of who forms the government.”
