Kota Kinabalu: The ongoing “Justice for Zara Qairina” rally is not linked to any political party, said the legal team representing Zara’s family.
The legal team, comprising Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri together with four others, said the solidarity gathering was for Zara’s justice.
“For those who intend to join the solidarity gathering with political motives, please don’t come. This solidarity is for Zara and not for any political party.
“I urge the organisers of this solidarity event to reject any individuals who wish to deliver politically motivated speeches,” said Hamid Monday.
He added that the spirit of the gathering is to honour Zara’s memory and to keep the focus on her rather than political interests.
Hamid said he and his team strongly support the solidarity gathering. However, he advised those participating in the peaceful assembly to comply with the law and maintain cleanliness.
According to Hamid, the wave of solidarity for Zara across the country would not have happened if there had been no negligence at the early stage of the investigation and if a post-mortem had been conducted properly.
Zara’s incident continues to touch the hearts of many, not only in the country but also abroad.
A month after Zara was found unconscious on the ground floor of her dormitory in Papar, the movement has drawn thousands across the country in a remarkable show of unity.
Zara’s death has prompted a wave of public solidarity, with state leaders, activists and non-governmental organisations calling for a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served.
