Kuching: Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) Sarawak branch has expressed full support for the party's proposal to name a Deputy Prime Minister from East Malaysia if it is elected to power.

"This is a pertinent issue to ensure that the sharing of power concept agreed during the formation of Malaysia can be truly implemented," PKR Sarawak Chairman, Wan Zainal Wan Senusi, said in a statement Monday.

The proposal is part of a seven-point agenda dubbed the "Tambunan Declaration" announced by Sabah maverick politician Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan at a rally in Tambunan on Saturday where he officially joined PKR.

The rally was attended by thousands of supporters of Jeffrey in the stronghold of his eldest brother Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who is a Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and President of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

The declaration is based on the 20-Point Agreement which paved the way for Sabah and Sarawak to join the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.

Besides the demand for the appointment of a Deputy Prime Minister from Sabah and Sarawak, the declaration also seeks an increase in the petroleum royalty to 20 per cent from the present five. - Bernama
