NORTH BORNEO NEWS & SABAH TIMES (Thursday, July 20, 1961) JESSELTON, Wed. - Three North Borneo delegates to the Malaya-Borneo region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference left this afternoon for Singapore.

They are the Hon Mr Donald Stephens, the Hon Mr Pang Tet Tsung and the Hon OKK Zainal Kerahu.

The Conference commences on July 21 and ends on 26th.

The Yang di-Pertuan Negara of Singapore will open the Conference on Friday and the business session begins on Saturday.

The Conference will discuss, it is learned, “Political and Cultural relations among the countries of Malaya-Borneo Group”.

The delegates attending the Conference are from Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and North Borneo. Australia and New Zealand are sending their observers to the Conference. The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association was formed in 1911 under the title “Empire Parliamentary Association”.

Its aim is to facilitate the exchange of information, arrange regular meetings and generally work for closer understanding between those engaged in parliamentary government within the Commonwealth.

In addition to yearly Conference in the different Commonwealth regions a big conference is held every two years to enable representatives from all the Association branches to meet.

The next Conference will be held in London in September this year and delegates from most of the 67 branches are expected to attend.

North Borneo’s representative will be Mr Donald Stephens, who leaves by air on August 31.
