Ben Stephens replaces Syed Kechik  as Yayasan Sabah Director

NORTH BORNEO NEWS & SABAH TIMES - (Saturday, June 26, 1976) - KOTA KINABALU, Tuesday. – The younger brother of the late Tun Haji Mohamed Fuad Stephens, Datuk Ben Stephens, has been appointed the new Director of the Sabah Foundation. Datuk Ben Stephens, Sabah’s former Director of Establishment, replaces Datuk Syed Kechik in the post.

The chairman of the Foundation is the Chief Minister who automatically assures the post under the recent amendment to the Foundation’s Enactment.

Disclosing the appointment today, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Harris Salleh also released the names of the six appointed members on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

The six, whose five-year term takes effect from June 15, the State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Encik James Ongkili, Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly Encik Lim Guan Sing, former State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Datuk Haji Sakaran Dandai who is also the Usno Assemblyman for Semporna, Datuk Ben Stephens, Datuk Kassim Othman and Datuk Haji H.S. Martyn. 

In addition to the six, two more members are appointed by the Federal Minister of Education – the State Director of Education and the Federal Secretary.

Datuk Harris said the new Board of Trustees held its first meeting today and unanimously agreed to the appointment of Datuk Ben Stephens as the new Director.

The meeting also agreed to provide scholarships up to university level for all children of the 11 people including Tun Fuad killed in the recent air crash near here. – Bernama
