Prominent paedophiles enjoyed protection in UK

Years ago, a Peace Corps teacher introducing us to Shakespeare’s Richard III, whom he called ‘Richard the Turd’ (which joke fell flat in the class because that was how we all pronounced ‘third’), broke off in his introduction to the play and referred to a novel called “Pale Fire” which he said should be read by everyone of us.

Neither the title nor the writer’s name rang any bells in our heads at the time, but the name sank into my subconscious mind like a seed to germinate only decades later when I came across a BBC radio play of the same name.

This time, my curiosity belatedly piqued, I clicked, and was totally hooked, “Pale Fire” came alive. I later bought the book, looked up, and read all about its author.

Today the name of the author, Vladimir Nabokov is known by the world at large not so much as the author of “Pale Fire”, but as the author of that ‘notorious’ book, “Lolita” which four respectable publishers had declined to touch before it was offered to Olympia. Today, “Lolita” is again in the news; the “Lolita Express” being the name given to the infamous trips organized by one Jeffrey Epstein for the super-rich and powerful people to his island, ‘Little St James’, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, for the the purpose, among other things, of enjoying the company of young girls.

In the book, Nobokov calls these young girls ‘nymphets’, a name he invented, but let us have the author himself (in the persona of the hero, or anti-hero, of the book, Humbert Humbert)  explain in his inimitable style;

Between the age limits of nine and fourteen there occur maidens who, to certain bewitched travelers twice or many times older than they, reveal their true nature which is not human, but nymphic (that is,, demoniac); and these chosen creatures I propose to designate as ‘nymphets’.”

Apparently there are in this world today many men like Humbert Humbert who secretly, and without any conscience, prefer young to mature girls; but our hero with the pseudonym he chose for himself and self-addressed as ‘HH’ in the book,  is far removed from those lecherous reprobates on the sleazy Express.  Humbert Humbert is in fact a very articulate, highly intelligent and imaginative teacher of English with, alas, a passion for young girls, one of whom, the focus of his desire in this book, is Lolita. He introduces her in at the start of the novel with these memorable lines:

 “Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul.  Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly, at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.”

 No, this is not a ‘dirty’ book, it is rather a carefully crafted work of art that, in a celebration of words and of language itself, brings to life an imaginative character with a passion for what was in the days of its first publication, an unspeakable psychological aberration. HH struggles to overcome his passion, succumbs, and finally, subliminates it – in lyrical prose, that titillates only one’s intellect.

He writes in his own defence, from prison charged with the murder of one Quilty who despoiled his Lolita ; “ I wish this memoir to be published only when Lolita is no longer alive….Thus neither of us is alive when the reader opens this book….(to Lolita)..I hope you will love your baby. I hope it will be a boy.  That husband of yours I hope will always treat you well, because otherwise my spectre shall come at him, like black smoke, like a demented giant, and pull him apart nerve by nerve.” It is therefore unfortunate that Lolita’s name should be linked to Epstein and his perversion.

The Jeffrey Epstein affair is but the tip of the iceberg and there is no doubt, to my mind that powerful forces have been doing damage control and trying to hide the facts and the parties involved from the public.

In 2008 when the case first surfaced, in exchange for a guilty plea, Epstein was given a lenient sentence together with an unprecedented plea bargain  included ‘ immunity to any potential co-conspirators’. The case resurfaced this July with fresh charges against Epstein of sex-trafficking. Before the matter could be brought to trial Epstein was found to have committed suicide in his cell despite being on suicide watch. But this essay is also not about Epstein, that rabbit hole is going to be too deep and besides, the matter is still being actively investigated. The fact that his powerful friends include Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Ehud Barak, Prince Andrew, and perhaps half of Hollywood is enough to keep the matter in the news on both sides of the Atlantic for a very long time.

However, and perhaps even surprisingly to some, the Paedophilia capital of the world is in the old world, not the new.

Studies showed that if you lived in London in 1997, you were, on the average, likely to be living no more than 200 yards from a convicted pedophile (LWT). There was even a pressure group, the Pedophile Information Exchange (PIE) that was affiliated with the British National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL), that sought, among its other nefarious objects, to amend the Child Protection Bill in 1978 to make child pornography not illegal if it could be proven that no child has been harmed in the process (Morning Star, April 18, 2019).

That ‘mother of all parliaments’, Westminister, is apparently also deeply mired in child sex trafficking, child porn and pederasty. Among the more notable members of the Westminster Pedophile Ring was the Liberal MP Cyril Smith, whose penchant for young boys was well known to a number of parliamentarians in the 60s. The police recently admitted that they could have prosecuted him for rape of minors were he not protected by senior civil servants and the MI5 ( Morning Star).

Ted Heath, the conservative prime minister from 1970  to 1974  was another notorious pedophile who enjoyed th protection of the establishment while in and also when out of office. Under investigation for seven out of a total of forty two allegations of sexual misconduct with young persons from the period 1961 to 1992, according to the police, he would have been called in for questioning were he still alive.  (The Guardian, 5th October, 2017).

To this day how far British Intelligence have been involved in cover-ups to protect politicians and royalty is not known, but they have been known to do so in these cases; from the 50s to the late 70s destitute boys in the Kincora Boy’s Home, Belfast,  had been routinely targeted by prominent politicians, with the knowledge and tacit consent of MI5; during the Thatcher administration, a senior member of MI6 and a member of PIE, was known to have been involved in “extreme sexual torture and murder of children.”( ZeroHedge, 08/27/2019).

 As recently as 2014 an inquiry was ordered by Theresa May the then home secretary, into allegations of sexual abuse of  young persons by members of parliament. The inquiry is still ongoing and has yet to submit its report. There appears therefore to be an on-going conspiracy of silence among those in power to keep such matters from the public. Jimmy Saville a TV presenter and egregious paedophile for over forty years, rubbed shoulders with royalty, and went to his grave untarnished by his crimes, his reputation protected by the establishment and the intelligence services.

The cooperative and compliant mainstream media appear to have attempted to trivialize or downplay all these dark and sordid crimes, most recently by dubbing the assignations to the island as the ‘Lolita Express’ much to the despair, if not the disgust, I am sure, of all admirers of the novel and its author. No, these cases all involved insatiable perverts and predators often very rich and very powerful, and their deeds often dark, satanic and cultish ; they are as far removed from our hero, Humbert Humbert as cheese is from chalk.

However, Nabokov, the wily novelist, himself a collector and a world respected authority on butterflies to boot, appears to have the last word on the matter. In his autobiography, “Speak Memory”, he included a short biography of his father in one chapter. He tells of coming across papers written by his father on a number of legal topics, one of which, is entitled, ’Carnal Crimes’, written in 1902, in which his father;

 “discusses rather prophetically in a certain odd sense, cases in London of little girls, that is, those from eight to twelve years of age, being sacrificed to lechers..”

 Yes, this trafficking of under aged girls (and nowadays as if in keeping with the time, little boys as well) has been around for a very long time indeed, and often involve satanic rituals that may include child sacrifice.

Vladimir Demitriyevich Nabokov, the father of the novelist, and himself a remarkable character, was a minor aristocrat and a judicial officer in the service of the last Tsar of Russia. Like most aristocrats of his time, he was brought up to be more fluent in English and French than Russian and was equally at home in London and Paris as in St. Petersburg. The passions in his life were the arts and literature; he considered Flaubert’s ‘Madame Bovary’ to be an ‘unsurpassed pearl of French literature’.

When a paper written by him critical of the role of the Tsar’s police in a recent pogrom displeased the despot, he was promptly dismissed from service. He continued however to be active in the fields of law and politics.

A moderate member of the Duma, he was forced to flee his country during the 1918 Bolshevik Revolution, and subsequently took up residence in France and Germany. He was assassinated by a fascist in Germany in 1922.
