IGC meeting accepts 20-Points safeguards

JESSELTON, Mon. - Mr G.S. Sundang, President of the Pasok Momogun Party, told the National Council of the Sabah Alliance Party last night that at no time did he support the rebellion in Brunei. 

Mr Sundang, who was asked to explain his speech in the Budget Session of the Legislative Council, said that the intention behind his speech in the Legislative Council was to sound a warning for the need for vigilance so that the sort of surprise attack which had happened in Brunei would not happen in North Borneo, according to a Sabapa press statement issued here today. 

The statement, issued by the Sabah Alliance Party, added that Mr Sundang has agreed to make a public, announcement and to state that he did not support the rebels and gave his full support tothe Alliance and the Alliance Executive and National Council had taken in respect of the Brunei rebellion.

The Council also decided to send a letter to President Sukarno of Indonesia, explaining the position of the Alliance as the true representative of the people of Sabah as proved by the elections and to request President Sukarno and the Republic of Indonesia to rebels and gave his full support to the Alliance and the action which the Alliance Executive and National Council had taken in respect of the Brunei rebellion.

The Council also decided to send a letter to President Sukarno of Indonesia, explaining ► the position of the Alliance as the true representative of the people of Sabah as proved by the elections and to request President Sukarno and the Republic of Indonesia to support the aspirations of the people of Sabah to obtain their independence through Malaysia.

Earlier, the statement said that the National Council of the Sabah Alliance Party held a meeting at the Alliance Headquarters last night. OKK Datu Mustapha was in the chair. 

The Chairman spoke about the District Council elections and congratulated all those who had won.

He said it was a resounding Alliance victory and said that where there had been friendly contests by members of the Alliance those who had lost should not consider it a defeat because in any case the Alliance had won. The Datu also paid tribute to all those who had worked so hard before the elections and whose work was responsible for the Alliance victory.

The Chairman then called on Mr Donald Stephens to report on the work of the Inter-Governmental Committee as he was Joint Leader with the Chief Secretary of the Borneo Members in the I.G.C. 

Mr. Stephens said that generally speaking the result of the meetings of the Inter-Governmental Committee had brought about satisfactory conclusions to the twenty points submitted to the I.G.C. before the Committee began its work . 

Mr. Stephens then went through the twenty points, point by point, and reported on what had been concluded. He stressed that the report of the I.G.C. would be tabled at the next meeting of the Legislative Council and that the matters discussed were therefore confidential and were not for the time being for publication. 

The meeting expressed satisfaction at the results achieved by the Alliance Members of the Inter-Governmental Committee. 

Stephens told the meeting that the Agreement for the creation of Malaysia will be signed by representatives of all concerned by representatives of the United Kingdom the Federation of Malaya, Sarawak and representatives of Sabah. 

He said he had every reason to believe that Malaysia will come about according to schedule on 31st August 1963.
