KUALA LUMPUR, Sat- The President of the United Sabah National Organisation, Datu Mustapha bin Datu Harun yesterday, stated that A.M Azahari and his Brunei Party Rakyat only represented a small section of the people of Brunei.

The Datu, who was one of the North Borneo delegates to the third plenary session of the Inter-Governmental Committee on Malaysia, said this just before his departure, to Jesselton yesterday.

He said: “It should be clearly understood that Azahari and his clique represent only one of several political parties in Brunei and voice the sentiment of only a small section of the Brunei malay community.”

He added that the wishes and feelings of the other political parties and communities should also be considered.

“My party therefore appeals to all concerned to be fair and to allow the people of North Borneo, Brunei and Sarawak to decide their future themselves without any interference from outside, so as to avoid unnecessary conflict and difficulties.”

Earlier Datu Mustapha disclosed that the Central Executive Committee of his party had met to consider the matter of the Brunei insurgents and the threats to interference from Indonesia.

He said that the Committee unanimously agreed that the threat was unfortunate and was to be regretted.

He said: ‘The people of Indonesia are our brothers and sisters. They should therefore appreciate our problems better.
