Kota Kinabalu: London based author and artist June Adeline Corpuz, an orphan from a royal house of a seafaring tribe from North Borneo, will present a Zoom book reading on Ada Pryer, the lover of William Burgess Pryer, remembered today as the founder of modern Sandakan.

It’s to pre-launched “Reflections of a curious Victorian Lady in North Borneo” co-authored by June, a retired banker, who was brought up by the family of the Pryers.

The event organised by Sabah Society Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu in collaboration with NGO ‘Forever Sabah’ is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 7:30pm (Malaysia) and 12:30 noon (British Standard Time). Email Sabah Society executive secretary Monica for your Zoom link:

This year is the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Osa Johnson with her husband Martin Johnson to Sandakan (April 12, 1920).

It’s also opportune to commemorate the life of another female adventurer Ada with her husband William Pryer in North Borneo during the 19th century.
