HElping Animals Rescue Team (Heart)

WITH his huge eyes, bat ears, and sweet temperament, the doggo should be the apple of someone’s eye – but, sadly, that is not his reality just yet. Instead of living in a loving home, this adult doggo found himself wandering the streets alone. He was found after being hit by a car – and taken under the custody of Heart and now uses everything in our power to give him what he needs, which is an expensive but necessary for his injuries surgery.

His innocent eyes tell us a story of unthinkable pain and suffering. Bosnia is a gentle and sweet two-year-old boy who has already faced a lifetime’s worth of sorrow after being involved in a horrific accident.

We never want to say no to an animal in need, but during this difficult time many more calls and WhatsApp messages. Desperate animals like Bosnia are truly counting on your support now more than ever.

On Oct 18, the Heart team responded to a dog in distress. Upon arrival, Heart’s Dr Roslee located an injured dog that found refuge under someone else’s car at Taman Cantek Lido, Penampang. The dog was yelping and in excruciating pain with both front legs injured and was laying there for three days.

The dog we named Bosnia was a victim of a hit-and-run by a vehicle and left for dead. According to witnesses, the driver did not stop even if it was clear that the dog was right in front of him. In this case, however, the driver did not return to check on the dog despite having an opportunity to do so.

The poor dog could not walk without crying out in pain and dragged himself to safety.

According to the Sabah Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, it is illegal to not stop and help the animal after an accident. Failure to do so could result in a RM100,000 fine or a jail term of up to three years or both.

When we saw him he was in a truly terrible state. When life knocks street dogs like Bosnia down, it is only kind people like you who have the power to pick them back up.

And during this time of crisis, there are so many homeless dogs and cats relying on you to be their beacon of hope. With you by our side, we can get through this challenging time. Please give today, so we can continue rescuing animals in need and give them the life-saving care they deserve. Please help us to end the pain and suffering.

After we rescued the dog Bosnia, we discovered that the dog’s injury was not a “simple” one and would not heal on its own. We scooped up the dog and put him in a carrier and rushed him to the vet clinic.

According to the vet, the dog has breaks in his hip and pelvis plus a less dangerous break in his front leg. To fix the other breaks, however, the dog will need surgery requiring plates and screws, which greatly increases the cost.

But to cover the cost, we need all the help we can get. Remember there is no such thing as a donation that is too small. It’s all those bits of love and generosity that make the magic happen!

We receive no government funding and rely on the support and kindness from our community, private donations and charity bazaar to complete our mission. Heart does not euthanise animals to make space to house others. We are a no-kill animal welfare group and work to preserve life whenever possible.

If you would like to help to pay for Bosnia’s medical veterinary bill and his other expenses please send your money to:
