Study tour of Malaya

JESSELTON, Fri. - The first member of the fifth group of local officers to visit Malaya leaves Jesselton tomorrow. The Government officer, Mr. Wee Chun Kee, Liason Officer in the Malaysia Section of the Secretariat, will study the set-up of the Malayan Government’s ... Affairs Department the State Secretary and Rural Development.

The other three officers who will study Malayan Departments are Che Awang Mohammed Thaufeck, Mr K.G. Unnithan, and Mr Miau Shau Kee will leave for Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 25th and are due to return on 4th December.

Jailed for break-in

JESSELTON, Wed. – A Chinese was sentenced to a total of 4 years and one day’s imprisonment by the magistrate Mr I. R. Greene in the magistrate’s court here for house-breaking by night and theft. He was Lim Ting Hee who was convicted in four separate cases on the same day.

In the first four cases he received one year’s imprisonment; sentences to run consecutively. In the fifth case he was sentenced to one day’s imprisonment: sentence to run consecutively with the sentences in previous cases.

The court was told that the accused was arrested at the Tamparuli Tamu ground after a report that $2,059 worth of textiles had been stolen from Mayfair shop in Jesselton. The police has recovered $2,053 worth of goods. The accused was found selling the stolen goods at the tamu, the court was told.
