WHAT we find most cruel is abandoning old or sick dogs. And believe us, there are many people who do this.

When the dog is healthy, they are happy to shower it with love and show it off to friends, neighbours and relatives.

But when the dog falls sick or becomes old, requiring extra care, these heartless people give up on their pets.

They abandon them or just tell their vets that they can’t afford to treat the illness or can’t spare the time to look after them.

What you do will come around. We wonder how these people would feel if their children abandoned them when they grow old?

Dogs are to be cherished – not thrown out like garbage when they are sick or unwanted. It’s always shocking to see this level of disregard for animals – in this case literally throwing away his or her pet dog like trash into a dumpsite.

She was dumped like a piece of garbage and left for dead. For anyone who is about to read this post – it‘s going to break your heart.

We often share heartwarming stories of rescued animals, but what the poor creature has to go through prior to that can be devastating.

This particular dog story perfectly illustrates how strikingly brutal some people can be and how incredibly kind others are.

It‘s all about balance in the world, right? Not the kind of balance we would hope for, but the one we have to deal with.

This sickly dog, named Rossa was not only abandoned, but thrown away in a dumpster like trash in Menggatal.

She was emaciated and anaemic. Luckily, a good Samaritan noticed a dog among the garbage, after hearing her whimpering cries coming from a nearby dumpster and this is where you take your tissues out.

The amount of pain and sadness in the dog‘s eyes is almost unbearable to watch.

Looking helpless and vulnerable, the dog was obviously left to die in mounds of trash.

She had bruises and injury marks on her body. She was definitely one of the most critical cases we have seen in awhile.

Perhaps, the dog, which looked very sick, dirty and helpless was waiting for someone to help her out of the horrible looking dumpsite.

The dog was obviously sick and her breathing was heavy or having rapid breathing. It was an early sign of heat stroke or it could be some underlying medical issues like lung diseases such as cancer, parasitic infections or pneumonia.

Looking at the condition the dog was in, we tried to comfort her without hurting her. She was literally very close to death.

We acted swiftly and saved the dog from the dumpster.

The veterinarian who attended to the dog suspects that the dog was physically abused and neglected by its despicable owner before being dumped.

The vet said if the dog survived the ordeal it would be unbelievable and truly a miracle.

We suppose the owner (s) are uninvolved emotionally because we cannot comprehend how someone could easily disconnect their emotions from a family member that happens to be an animal.

The owner(s) didn’t need the dog in the first place and they cannot feel empathy for animals and probably people as well.

They are the ones who make up the scum of the earth. They are not good people. They are awful human beings.

If they can hurt an animal, they can hurt a human.

The heartless person who dumped her is still out there. It’s just unfathomable the cruelty that people can bring onto animals.

Having a pet at home means having the enormous responsibility of caring for the pet and protecting the animal that lives to shower its unbridled love to the owner.

By right every last grey hair, every missed step, the owner should be by their side helping them and loving them.

Unfortunately, the reality is different. There are people who are not prepared to take care of a pet and abandon it in the worst circumstances without taking into account that there are multiple options open to them, instead of “dumping” the pet.

Most often, these are indoor dogs who’ve spent their lives within a home. They have no idea of how to fend for themselves on the roads.

Many get killed or badly injured; the lucky ones are rescued by some kind soul.

It is truly heart breaking.

If you really have to give her up, please contact a rescue group or pass the word around on social media that you are looking for a home for your dog.

Never leave her on the streets. It’s downright cruelty. She cannot fend for herself, she is scared, people throw stones at her, she has no food or water.

Can you really be so heartless? Perhaps because animals are considered property. Their lives are not as respected as those of human life.

Animals are frequently considered to be without souls. This is common in Sabah. It doesn’t make it right.

Let’s remind ourselves that there are always ways to help an animal in distress and together we can make a difference.

If you cannot afford veterinary care, there are other options such as animal rescue groups and local shelters.

It is a felony in Sabah to subject any animal to unjustifiable suffering and neglect.

Under the Sabah Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, any person convicted of maliciously and intentionally wounding, abandoning or killing an animal can be imprisoned for up to three years in jail and/or fined RM100,000 or both.

The dog did not deserve this. No dog deserves this. We will not let her abused go in vain. Heart wants justice.

We want the man who senselessly abused and abandoned the dog put behind bars. The dog’s abandonment was illegal and unjustified.

The man who abandoned her like a piece of trash has to be jailed, if not, a horrible precedent will be set for our pets. Justice has to be served.

Heart will be judiciously pursuing this matter further. This dog suffered a senseless and brutal act of violence.

We see a crime being committed, it is our duty to lodge an official police report and Department of Veterinary.

We want the authorities to immediately carry out investigation.

We receive no government funding and rely on the support and kindness from our community, private donations and charity bazaar to complete our mission.

Heart does not euthanise animals to make space to house others. We are a no-kill animal welfare group and work to preserve life whenever possible.

We rely on donations from people like you who are willing to spend their hard-earned money to help animals in dire needs.
