HElping Animals Rescue Team (HEART)

It goes without saying that causing harm to animals is never acceptable. So when we see a furry friend in need of help, we always try our best to aid them.  It’s always heartbreaking when puppies are abandoned by their owners, but some cases are just extra heinous. It’s bad enough to discard your pet like they’re garbage, but it’s overly cruel to literally throw them in a predicament environment.

Sometimes humans are the worst… like the ones who abandoned five puppies in a predicament environment.

These puppies needed urgent veterinary attention but it would appear as though they have callously been abandoned instead. A litter of five young puppies has been found starving, emaciated and barely survived after being left in a small box in the electrical sub-stations by some heartless soul.

The four-week-old pups was found at 3pm yesterday (Friday), crawling along a patch of grass along a pathway connecting to the electrical sub-stations in Taman Mawar, Menggatal.

They were shivering and shaking due to hunger and cold. Had we not come in time the pups would have been electrocuted. As bad as they were, we wouldn’t be surprised if they had been out there few days. To dump them like that to die a slow painful death is just beyond belief.

Certainly they could be looking at a prison term of up to three years, or a fine of over RM100,000 or both under the Sabah Animal Welfare Enactment 2015.

It is disturbing how anyone could be so cruel and heartless, to put five vulnerable little puppies in a box leaving them to fend for themselves to an inevitable death. We denounced the actions of the individuals who caused harm to the puppies as being abusive and unacceptable. There are just no words.

These five puppies are lucky to be alive thanks to the kind-hearted member of the public for alerting us. It’s unclear how long the puppies were there but they are now receiving round the clock care at our foster home.

We’re outraged at the cruel abandonment and describe the dumper as ‘absolute grubs.’ We hope you know what pure scum you are and the absolute pain your puppies must be in right now. Mentally and physically.

The deliberately abandoned puppies extremely thin, and were sad — not just from being tossed in the electrical sub-stations, but being separated from their mother.

The litters were covered in fleas and badly dehydrated – The puppies, which were no more than 20 days old, were then rushed to the vet and treated for hypothermia, hypoglycaemia and hunger before sending them to our foster home. Two of the puppies were in a very bad way – they were covered in maggots and excrement and were very, very dehydrated.

This is a tragedy in this day and age with so many animal welfare groups and places that are willing to care for these animals, the suffering of these animals could have been avoided.

The puppies are doing well but will require intensive support as they are very young and now orphans, and the HEART team will continue to provide this over the coming weeks.

HEART is investigating the case, hoping someone will come forward with information that will shed light on how the puppies ended up like this, hoping to bring some justice and reunite the family.

The situation could easily have been avoided if the puppies’ mother had been spayed or if the dog’s owner had contacted HEART or other animal welfare groups for help.

Spaying and Neutering is the obvious solution in preventing unwanted puppies from being born in the first place.

It is only possible with donations from the public and we encourage people to consider us in their charitable donations.

We receive NO government funding and rely on the support and kindness from our community, private donations and charity bazaar to complete our mission. HEART does not EUTHANIZE ANIMALS to make space to house others. We are A NO KILL ANIMAL WELFARE GROUP and work to preserve life whenever possible.

We rely on donations from people like you who are willing to spend their hard-earned money to  help animals in dire need.
