DIGITAL health is an emerging field that has rapidly grown in Malaysia and worldwide in recent years.
With the increasing technology adoption in healthcare, digital health has become essential to modern healthcare systems.
It also has dramatically changed how individuals or patients seek medical attention as this is an alternative and the most efficient way to improve the deficiencies of the existing medical system and speed up the efficiency of medical treatment.
In Malaysia, digital health has played a vital role in improving healthcare access, quality, and efficiency.

One of the key areas of focus has been telemedicine, which allows patients to receive medical consultations and diagnoses remotely, reducing the need for travel and wait times.
Other digital health technologies such as electronic health records, health information exchange, and health monitoring systems have also been widely adopted in Malaysia to improve healthcare delivery.
Those who are interested in this area of work may be interested in the International Medical University’s Digital Health programme which is the first degree in Malaysia that blends Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Data Analytics and Healthcare components in its curriculum where our graduates will be equipped with an in-depth understanding and know-how of the healthcare field.
In a ground-breaking move towards 21st-century learning, International Medical University (IMU) has unveiled a modern computer laboratory set to transform how students and lecturers work together, particularly in the Digital Health programme.
This cutting-edge facility provides a conducive space for teaching and learning, boasting high-performance computers, the latest software, and an adaptable layout that encourages innovation and collaboration.
The new computer lab will be a crucial resource for the university’s Digital Health programme, enabling students and lecturers alike to engage in cutting-edge research and development to advance the field of digital health.
Designed with the modern student in mind, the spacious, well-lit environment fosters a sense of community and allows students to share ideas, give and receive feedback, and work collaboratively on their projects.
With guidance and support from their lecturers, students are free to explore their interests and pursue their passions, using the latest technology to push the boundaries of what is possible in digital health.
“The new computer lab is a dream come true for us, as well as a conducive and comfortable environment suited for study,” says one student, beaming with excitement.
Thanks to the lab’s latest equipment and innovative design, lecturers and facilitators can provide their students with an engaging and effective learning experience. With easy access to the latest software and tools, students can immerse themselves in their studies and explore their passions with ease.

In this context, “leveraging on the university teaching staff diversity – including computer science and informatics, biomedical, clinical and health sciences – alongside that of external industrial partners, the new computer lab takes the delivery to the next level - that focuses on digital health development.
This combination will provide a platform for students to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to advance digital health in Malaysia and beyond,” said Dr Tan Ee Xion, IMU’s senior lecturer and programme director of the Digital Health programme.
Overall, this new computer lab is a shining example of how technology can reimagine and transform education.
Its adaptable layout, software, and innovative approach to teaching and learning will inspire a new generation of students and teachers alike.
The Bachelor in Digital Health (Honours) programme is Malaysia’s first undergraduate programme focusing on digital health.
It will teach graduates about healthcare organisations, systems and regulations, needs and problems.
The programme aims to equip students with an in-depth understanding and know-how of the healthcare field, particularly digital health.
After the completion of the Digital Health undergraduate programme, students can progress to the one-year Master in Health Informatics and Analytics at IMU.
