Two Tshung Tsin students make Sabah proud at Sunway contest

Kota Kinabalu:Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School’s Soh Yim Qin and Rachel Wong Siau Ying did Sabah proud when they clinched the 1st Runner-up in the Sunway University’s 2023 Next Big Question Competition.

They took home the prestigious trophy, certificate of achievement, and bursaries, each valued at RM12,000.
A total of 20 teams from across Malaysia took part in the competition which kicked off on April 15. The grand finals on Aug 12 marked the culmination of months of preparation.
Under the theme “Planetary Health in Malaysia,” this year’s competition transcended the boundaries of convention, igniting profound discussions on environmental preservation and harmonious coexistence with the nation’s diverse biodiversity.

Soh and Rachel embarked on a transformative journey that unfolded through four rigorous stages. Rising above a nationwide pool of contenders, their ground breaking research on human-elephant conflict emerged as a beacon of insight.
Their in-depth exploration, with a focused lens on the lower Kinabatangan region and the conservation of the Borneo Pygmy elephants, unveiled a multidimensional understanding of a critical issue.
Their meticulously honed 600-word essay was not merely an exercise in intellect but a testament to their unwavering commitment to their cause.
Displaying impeccable communication skills, the dynamic duo captivated judges and the audience alike with a compelling three-minute video pitch.
