PAPAR: Persatuan Rekreasi Pohumpung Bukit Bendera Papar organised a three-day Environmental Education Exploration Programme on February 20–22, 2024, at Bukit Bendera, Kg. Biau, Papar.
The event was collaboration between the association, Institut Kerjasama Kerajaan dan Rakyat (IKRAR), Papar Education District, Kota Kinabalu Sabah Forestry Department, Jabatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (Papar), and Papar Rela.
Sixteen primary and six secondary schools participated in the programme, involving 475 students and 106 teachers.
In his opening ceremony speech on the first day of the programme, the director of IKRAR, Azrul Ibrahim, whose agency financed the programme, said the event’s outcome would be the attainment of awareness and stewardship of the environment among the students.
Meanwhile, Limbahau assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim, in his closing ceremony speech on the third day, reiterated the programme’s significance in ascertaining a sustainable natural environment for future generations.
The programme was expected to witness the planting of 1162 new tree seeds in schools and houses in Papar.
