Kota Kinabalu: The University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) and University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) are exploring potential avenues for academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

A delegation from UTS, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin, visited UCSF’s campus in Sembulan earlier this week to discuss areas of mutual interest.

The UTS team included Registrar Jimmy and Bursar Dr Rabuan. They were welcomed by UCSF Vice Chancellor Dr Rafiq Idris, who provided an overview of the university’s recent developments and future plans.

Both institutions expressed keen interest in collaborating on research projects, student and staff exchange programmes, joint conferences, and other academic activities.

“We are excited to explore collaborative possibilities with UTS in strategic areas that align with our shared aspiration to provide accessible, quality education,” said Rafiq.

Khairuddin reciprocated, emphasising the importance of enhancing access to higher education across Sabah and Sarawak through meaningful partnerships.

He highlighted the potential for joint research initiatives focused on Borneo development studies and heritage conservation – areas of common interest for the two universities.

The proposed collaboration is part of UCSF’s ongoing efforts to establish strategic initiatives with neighbouring universities in Borneo.

Plans are underway to initiate people-to-people cooperation through student and staff exchange programs, fostering stronger relationships and creating opportunities for academic and cultural exchange.

During their visit, the UTS delegates were also given a tour of UCSF’s Nature Inspiration Art Gallery (NIAG).
