MANY SPM students who have completed their schooling will be wondering what to do next.

Some want to work, some want to study further, and some want to take a break. When you decide to study further, many things come to mind. Where to study, what to study, how much it will cost, etc.

To help you decide, let me introduce you to TVET courses. The establishment of TVET institutions began in 1964 with the establishment of the Kuala Lumpur Industrial Training Centre, which is now known as the Kuala Lumpur Industrial Training Institute.

The Ministry of Human Resources aimed to implement the National Apprenticeship Scheme (NAS) programme, which was taken over from the Ministry of Education at that time.

Next, the National Pioneer Youth Force, which is now known as the Dusun Tua National Youth Skills Institute, was established by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide skills training for the purpose of developing the nation’s skilled workforce.

Prime recruitment

Applications for admission to TVET courses for Prime Intake are opened two times a year, namely the January Intake and the July Intake (after the SPM results are released).

All public TVET institutions under 12 ministries will participate in offering TVET courses. The TVET courses offered are long-term courses only.

Recruitment throughout the year

Application for admission to one-year TVET courses involves private TVET institutions and short courses only. Applications throughout this year will be opened in May 2025 after the development and joint adjustment of the relevant TVET institution are completed.

Financial assistance

Financial assistance opportunities are currently provided by the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).
