KOTA KINBALU: The State Government welcomes private sector involvement so that the government’s financial burden can be reduced and available financial resources used to finance other socio-economic development projects and infrastructure.

“Working with private developers or contractors also helps government agencies such as the Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) to strengthen its financial resources and open opportunities to expand expertise in the field of property development,” said Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

“The State Government strives to drive the development of the state to a higher level in line with the direction of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ).

“With the support of the private sector, we are able to implement various development agendas for the benefit of the state and people,” he said, when officiating the LPPB Mixed Development Project - 88 Avenue groundbreaking at 88 Market, Kepayan Ridge, here, on Saturday.

The project involves the construction of high-cost and affordable residential houses including serviced suites, as well a shopping mall, including retail shops and dining outlets.

It also involves the construction of a supermarket.

Dr Joachim, who is also State Minister of Local Government and Housing, is confident that the 88 Avenue project would be a source of pride for the people of Kepayan and around Kota Kinabalu City in the future.

The project is a joint venture between 88 Mega City Builder Sdn Bhd and LPPB.

“For those looking for a home, Market 88 Kepayan Ridge has provided the upcoming 88 Avenue that is close to the State Capital,” he said.

“In this strategic alliance, LPPB acts as the land owner that provides the site for the project while Mega City Builder the financing contractor,” he said.

One of the roles of the financing contractor, Dr Joachim said, is to design and build this housing project with their own finances.

“It is the foundation for fulfilling a vision to make Kepayan Ridge a developed area characterized by planned, modern and balanced physical development,” he said.

Dr Joachim reminded LPPB and the company to ensure quality construction in line with Madani Malaysia’s approach.

“The maintenance and preservation of the environment should be the main discourse of this development.

“The balance of nature preservation should be parallel to physical development so that our development today can be passed on to future generations in good condition,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mega City Builder Sdn Bhd Executive Director Datuk George Yong said it is the third significant property development after Lido Avenue and K-Avenue.

He said the 88 Avenue is a testament to its continued commitment to excellence and innovation.

“This landmark development will feature five towers including three dedicated residential towers and two towers designed as serviced suites.

“Tower A is a 27-storey building that has 432 house units with each unit of three bedrooms and three bathrooms followed by Tower B1 has 162 housing units with each has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and Tower B2 has affordable apartments with 243 units.

“While the serviced suites in Tower C to be built with a height of 26-storey and have 333 housing units; and Tower D with a 29-storey building which is the Serviced Suites has 328 units,” he said.

Additionally, George said, an international brand hotel will join to operate the service suites towers.

At the event, George presented a donation of RM10,000 in a mock cheque to a representative of Pusat Pendidikan Islam An-Nur here.
