Kuala Lumpur: Petronas Dagangan Bhd and GreenTech Malaysia Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide 66 electric vehicle charging machines on major highways in Peninsular Malaysia with an allocation of RM2.2 million.Petronas Dagangan Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunos said all the 66 machines will be completely installed by next year.

"This will make Petronas Dagangan the first oil company in Malaysia to have this facility parked at its petrol stations.

"Moving forward, there will be more of the electric vehicle charging machines at Petronas stations," he told reporters after the MoU signing at the 7th International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2016).

Mohd Ibrahimnuddin said the investment ratio has yet to be determined but it will definitely be a sharing portion between the two parties, adding the collaboration is also to support the National Electric Vehicle Blueprint.

"We foresee a further study on Petronas Dagangan and GreenTech to have more collaboration in being more energy-efficient," he added.

Meanwhile, GreenTech Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Hadri Haris said this collaboration is divided into two stages: the first stage involves installing 66 charging stations at 66 Petronas stations along the highway, while in the second stage GreenTech will look into sustaining the facilities and further promoting them.

"This is a long-term plan for GreenTech and Petronas Dagangan until the year 2030.

"GreenTech will provide the expertise and we work together with our small and medium enterprises to grow the ecosystem.

"Petronas, through its petrol stations, will provide the parking spaces as well as infrastructure to charge the electric vehicles, and for the time being it will absorb the cost of electricity being charged there," he said.

Ahmad Hadri said customers using the green facility at Petronas can enjoy some of the refreshments provided at Petronas' Mesra stores. – Bernama
