Putra Jaya: The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) today advised Malaysian pilgrims to learn the guidelines on using international roaming services to avoid incurring high mobile phone bills. It also recommended them to use Internet data cautiously while abroad, and to obtain more information about roaming prices and packages offered by their service providers.

"CFM understands that Haj pilgrims want to keep in touch with their families while they are in Makkah," CFM said.

CFM chairman Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff said among measures needed to be taken by them were not to use two sim cards in one mobile phone if they were not familiar with the phone settings required to be configured, as well as use international sim cards sold in Malaysia or purchase a local sim card upon arriving in Saudi Arabia.

"Pilgrims can also deactivate "automatic connection to a network" and switch to "Airplane" mode, using only Wi-Fi connection to utilise apps like "WhatsApp Call / Video Call", he said.
