RM451,390 eatery business con
KOTA KINABALU: A 44-year-old local man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court Wednesday with cheating man of RM451,390 over a purported restaurant business.

Fairul Pat Lingham (pic) pleaded not guilty to cheating Thomas Michael Brennan by deceiving him to contribute the money to start a restaurant business by transferring them to Fairul’s two bank accounts.

Fairul allegedly committed the offence at 6pm in the middle of December 2013 at Kg Laut Kinarut, Jalan Papar Baru.

The prosecution proposed bail of RM20,000 on the grounds that the amount involved was almost RM500,000.

This event coincides with its proposed listing on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad ("Bursa Securities"), scheduled for 30 April 2025.
Fairul’s counsel Azhier Farhan, applied for the bail amount to be reduced on the grounds that he has no permanent job and has two children to support.

Azhier also submitted that since Fairul has no permanent job and income, he has financial difficulty to raise the amount offered by the prosecution at short notice.

Magistrate Mohd Aizat Abdul Rahim set March 11 for case management and offered Fairul bail at RM10,000 in two sureties.

In the same court, a 39-year-old contractor claimed trial to two counts of cheating and using as genuine forged documents.

Abdul Rodzan Abdul Karim, on the first count, is accused of cheating  Seyri Rasid by deceiving her to believe that he could arrange for her a bank loan for a vehicle, causing Seyri to give him RM2,000.

The offence allegedly took place at 2pm on Oct 1, 2018 in Restoran Anjung Rasa, Putera Jaya Telipok.

On the second count, Rodzan allegedly used as genuine a forged account statement, a copy of EPF statement and the payment slip for Seyri and another forged payment slip for Mursidi Dul at 10am on Oct 26, 2018 at the Syarikat Fook Loi Automax Sdn Bhd, Kepayan.

The court fixed March 27 for case management and offered Rodzan bail of RM2,000 in two sureties on each charge.

Rodzan was represented by duty counsel Aaron Agustine.

In another court, a 32-year-old man was fined RM6,000 or 10 months jail for keeping stolen cables.

Panjang Bangsawan admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the five rolls of stolen cables at noon on Feb 17 at a house in Kg Nosoob Penampang.

The court heard that the cables were reported stolen from Kg Tombovo area.

Panjang was represented by counsel Michelle Usman.
