Woman swallows windscreen pieces due to collision

Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old woman accidentally swallowed pieces of car windscreen after her car collided with a four-wheel drive at Mile 28, Jalan Papar Lama, Saturday.A member of the public helped send the woman to Queen Elizabeth hospital where she was admitted and reported in stable condition.

The woman, a city Road Transport Department staff who drove a Perodua Kembara, was travelling with her parents, heading to the city direction from Kimanis when the mishap occurred at 3.20pm on Aug. 8.

The woman's 62-year-old father said they were on their way to send a generator to be fixed at the city when their car was rammed by a Land Cruiser coming from the opposite direction.

He said his 56-year-old wife and their 1-year-old granddaughter, who suffered light injuries were also sent for treatment at QEH.

The land cruiser's driver, aged 34, who was with his wife, two children aged 2 and four and his 64-year-old father, was heading towards Papar from the city.

The car driver lost control of his car and collided with the Perodua Kembara and both vehicles landed on their side due to the impact.

The land cruiser's driver and passengers were slightly injured.

Meanwhile, two men escaped unhurt after their vehicles grazed against each other about an hour later, at 4.20pm at Jalan Lok Kawi.

A express bus driver, who came from Jalan Papar Lama after sending tourists to Beaufort, drove straight after noticing the malfunction traffic light at a junction to Sabindo.

A 70-year-old man, who drove a mini van to Lok Kawi from Sabindo direction veered into the main road before he grazed against the express bus.

The windscreen and rear screen of the mini van broke due to the impact.

Penampang traffic police are investigating.
