PENAMPANG: A Proton Wira Aeroback parked at Selesa Court along Jalan Kobusak here, Friday, caught fire in the latest case of vehicles catching fire. However, nobody was hurt.District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Jamalaludin Hussin said a fire engine manned by five personnel led by Operations Chief Jaree Mohammad rushed to the scene following a distress call at about 1.25pm. Fortunately two vehicles parked nearby were spared from the fire which was put out at about 1.51pm. The Proton Wira however was 80 per cent destroyed by the fire.

There have been at least seven cases of vehicles bursting into flames reported statewide over the previous months. On Oct. 27, a Naza Citra vehicle burst into flames along Tanjung Lipat in Kota Kinabalu. However the lone driver escaped unhurt.
On Oct 15, two vehicles caught fire in separate incidents at Jalan Kolam in Luyang. Nobody was injured. The first incident, involved a van driven by a 22-year-old man, a Myvi driven by a 32-year-old woman and a four-wheel-drive driven by a man.

The second incident took place about five feet from the first incident. It was learnt that the van suddenly caught fire at about 10am.On Aug. 11, a Proton Saga burst into flames along Likas Bay near the City Mosque. Its 24-year-old driver escaped unhurt.

On Aug 6, a Suzuki vehicle burst into flames near SMK Kabota in Tawau. The vehicle owner was taken to the hospital by civilians prior to the rescue teams' arrival.On June 5, a Honda Accord parked on the first floor of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Two parking lot was saved from further damage thanks to quick action from an off duty fire and rescue personnel. Nobody was in the vehicle during the incident which occurred at about 7.30am.On July 4, a Kancil parked adjacent to the KFC Restaurant off Jalan Habirun in Semporna burst in flames. The vehicle's engine apparently caught fire and quick thinking civilians managed to stop the fire from spreading to other direction.On April 24 a Hitachi heavy machinery was damaged after it caught fire at Jalan SK Limau – Limaun in Papar. Civilians helped to the fire out by the time rescue team arrived.
