KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) confirmed that operations of all air carriers including AirAsia Berhad will be transferred to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport Terminal 1 come Jan 1 next year. MAHB Kota Kinabalu International Airport Senior Airport Manager Sunif Naiman on Saturday said the low cost carrier must also operate from Terminal 1, without elaborating.

AirAsia Berhad Chief Executive Officer Aireen Omar who was here for the unveiling of AirAsia's special livery "Thank You Sabah" recently said they are still ironing out a few issues such as Goods and Services Tax in place and higher cost on the airport charges.

She said to move within a month is tough for any airline as more time is needed to do so. The airport charge in the newly upgraded Terminal 1 is RM65 compared to current charge of RM32 per traveller in Terminal 2.

There are plans to convert the Terminal 2 into a facility handling cargo.
