Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme has been adopted as a tool for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympic Games Sustainable Sourcing Code for palm oil, Primary Industries Minister, Teresa Kok said.It was among the three certifications approved by the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympic Games Sustainable Sourcing Code Committee on Dec 4 last year, besides the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

With the adoption, Japan will be sourcing edible and non-edible food products and soap with the MSPO, ISPO and RSPO certifications for use during both major sporting events.

Kok said recognition of the certification scheme at the international level is the dawn of a new era in the branding of Malaysian palm oil as it stands tall against all odds and adversities.

"Malaysia initiated the voluntary implementation of the MSPO Certification Scheme in 2015 and is moving towards making it progressively mandatory by year-end.

When it comes to skincare, the first thought on our minds would be beauty products such as serums, creams, and masks. However, beauty experts and even researchers have stated that drinking more water can be just as crucial for your skin's health.
"The mandatory implementation signifies Malaysia's commitment to the sustainable production of palm oil," she added.

Kok made the announcement during the opening of the Transfer of Technology Seminar and Exhibition 2018 at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) headquarters in Bangi on Friday.

"The industry is moving rapidly to be sustainably certified in meeting demands of international consumers.

"Through implementation of the MSPO certification, Malaysia is sounding its unwavering and strong commitment to the global edible oil market and commitment of the Malaysian oil palm industry to sustainability, protection of the environment, as well as meeting its social responsibility," Kok said. – Bernama
