Kota Kinabalu: An illegal entertainment outlet owner was fined RM3,000 or face six months jail.Leonard Keneith Mopiggang, 49, admitted before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to running the business of D'Sompoton Café and Lounge, at Country Height, Jalan Bantayan in Penampang at 2.45am on Jan 11, this year.
The court heard that police raided the outlet and found six customers still inside the premises which has no licence.
Leonard, who was unrepresented, had committed and offence under Section 3 of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or up to one year jail or both, upon conviction.
In another case, a 35-year-old rubber tapper, was jailed 14 months for having a stolen motorcycle.
Primus Yong pleaded guilty to having the stolen motorcycle, which belonged to Md Mahadhir Yap, at 5am on Aug 16 at Jalan Pulutan in Menggatal.
Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant lodged a police report that his motorcycle was stolen on July 30.
Counsel Michelle Usman, representing Yong, requested for leniency on the grounds that the machine was with him for only two weeks and that Yong used it as his transport to go to his rubber estate.
She added that the motorcycle had been returned to its owner in it original condition.
The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction. - Jo Ann Mool
