Tawau: The new Pakatan government has never put a freeze on hiring foreign workers except for Bangladeshi workers. It wants only the best workers sent to Malaysia and not end up a dumping ground for "trash".
Human Resource Minister M. Kulasegaran said Malaysia is keen to have more capable and knowledgeable foreign workers. A total of 1.9 million legal foreign workers were allowed while many of rest were illegal foreign workers.

He was speaking at a dialogue on labour issues with smallholders, hawkers, business merchants, Tiong Hua community and fishmongers at a conference hall of Tawau Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Friday night. Also present was State Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Jimmy Wong.
"There is no limitation for each registered company to recruit foreign workers."

Kula said the Prime Minister also had agreed to consider amending nine necessary laws of Sabah Labour Ordinance and the basic minimum housing standard in order to attract more foreign workers to work in Malaysia.
The government would consider a proposal on deducting 20 per cent of foreign workers' basic salaries and setting aside the money in a savings scheme.
It would be a 'forced-saving' and likely a security for the foreign workers when they could have money to back hometown. The Government will not take their 20 per cent of deduction". -
