KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia needs to mould modern and competitive entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, says Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub.
In this regard, said farmers, fishermen and breeders needed to carry an open mindset, and adapt to changes in order to diversify their outputs, produce high-value products and increase their annual income

“They also need to take risks and try novel and innovating techniques in order to maximise profits, minimise their efforts and grow their business,” he said when opening BioUsahawan 2019, jointly organised by the ministry and Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (Bioeconomy Corp) here today.
His speech text was read out by his deputy, Sim Tze Tzin.
BioUsahawan 2019, which takes place until tomorrow, is seen as a strategic platform for Malaysia’s agricultural sector to become more modern, sustainable and competitive.
In his speech, Salahuddin said creating partnerships was also vital to an entrepreneur’s success as the person might need assistance and training in doing business, including creating business models, adopting modern techniques and bringing their products to the market.

Armed with business acumen and entrepreneurial skills, said Salahuddin, local farmers, fishermen and breeders could become market-oriented not only to make profits based on market demand but also provide sufficient supply of food, energy and material to the people. – Bernama
