Abandoned illegals get aid
The migrant workers carry food items donated by well-wishers.
PENAMPANG: Food items are coming in for 28 families of illegal migrants who claim they have been abandoned by their Sabahan employer.

Generous donors and non-profit organisations as well as religious bodies have taken note of their plight following an FMT report and come to their aid.

The families, who are holed up at the construction site of a high-end residential project here, have received at least five days of rations consisting of rice, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, milk powder and other items.

One of the recipients, Abdul Rizuan, said he was thankful for the contribution.

The families, numbering 116 members, have been surviving on congee since Monday morning after attempts to reach their employer failed.

They are afraid to leave the area not only because of the movement control order but also because they have no identification documents, which could get them arrested and deported.

Their status as illegal immigrants also does not entitle them to government aid.-FMT
