Why Philippines' Sabah claim crops up again now?

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Sabah (Wari-san) President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic) on Thursday slammed certain quarters who are playing up the issue of the Philippine claim on Sabah and associating it with him during election time.“They (quarters) have been spreading a rumour calling on people ‘Don’t join Datuk Shafie, he is bringing Covid’.
“This is just like how they talk about Philippine claim…all these years, oh…’we have to topple Shafie because Philippine claim on Sabah is there’.
“Well, if they think I can be toppled, do you think this claim will stop?,” he asked.
