TAWAU: Some hired fishermen here are allegedly concealing higher-priced marine catch and selling it privately, resulting in the fishing vessel owners to suffer losses.
A fishing vessel owner, identified only as Chin, claimed that this phenomenon has been happening for the past 10 years.

“If it persists, the local fishing industry will not be able to survive due to the reduction in income.

“Tawau had about 50 to 60 fishing vessels operating 10 years ago, but this has been reduced to only about 10 now,” he said.
