RANAU: A substantial crack on the Kinabalu National Park parking lot which first appeared last November resulted in a huge landslide Wednesday morning, following non-stop heavy rainfall.
The location was at Km88 of the Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan road involving about 100 metres square of the parking area. The incident, however, did not obstruct traffic flow with both lanes still passable for vehicles.

Kinabalu National Park Manager Yassin Miki said the collapse happened in three stages beginning 10.53pm on Tuesday, followed by another at 11.45pm and the last at 1am.
He said it was initially noticed by park workers and all personnel were put on alert. It also missed the Restoran Panataran located nearby by several metres. He said up to 80 per cent of the parking lot crumbled to the valley below.
