Covid-19: 11 deaths, 3,048 new cases nationwide, 348 in Sabah
PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 3,048 Covid-19 cases and 11 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 3,638 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 145,084. This is the third day in a row that daily recoveries have outnumbered infections.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 186,849.

There are 41,076 active cases with 261 patients being treated in intensive care and 101 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 11 deaths today bring the number of fatalities to 689.

The 3,084 cases today is the lowest number recorded in a day since the 2,985 on Jan 13.

Of the 11 who died, 10 were Malaysians and one a foreigner, aged between 52 and 82, with eight of them suffering from existing medical conditions.

Three of them were only found to be Covid-19 positive after they had died and were brought to the hospital, where they were tested for the virus.

The new cases today involved 3,040 local infections and eight imported cases.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases today with 1,035, while states that recorded three-digit infections were Johor (529), Sabah (348), Kuala Lumpur (305), Sarawak (120), Penang (110), Perak (103).

They were followed by Negeri Sembilan (95), Melaka (90), Kelantan (89), Terengganu (79), Kedah (74), Pahang (46), Putrajaya (22) and Perlis (3). Labuan did not record any new cases today.

There were 62 cases detected in prison and detention centre clusters, most of which came from the Matambai cluster (18 cases), Tembok Taiping cluster (16) Tembok Sungai Udang cluster (10) and Jalan Harapan Prison cluster (9).

The health ministry has detected 13 new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham said today.

In a statement, he said eight of them were workplace clusters, three were community clusters and two were high-risk group clusters.

They are the Sri Muda, Sungai Chemubong and Jalan Waja clusters in Selangor; Jalan Indah, Jalan Firma Tiga and Kampung Muhibbah clusters in Johor; Industri Apas cluster in Sabah; Jalan Kerinchi cluster in Kuala Lumpur; Kampung Tualang cluster in Terengganu; Taman Bahagia and Kampung Bukit Lada clusters in Pahang; Bukit Palah cluster in Melaka; and Kampung Pahi cluster in Kelantan.

The Sri Muda cluster is a workplace cluster in Klang, with its index cases testing positive on Jan 25 after a screening in a factory at Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam. A total of 304 people have been screened, with 35 found positive.

The Jalan Waja cluster is another workplace cluster in Klang, with its first few cases found positive on Jan 21 after a screening in a factory at Jalan Waja, Klang. Some 1,076 people have been screened with 33 testing positive.

The Sungai Chemubong cluster is a workplace cluster in Gombak, with its first case testing positive on Jan 25 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. The cluster involves a public learning institution near Sungai Chemubong. A total of 204 people have been screened with 13 found positive.

The Jalan Indah cluster is a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru, with its index cases found positive on Jan 25 after a screening in a company at Jalan Indah, Taman Bukit Indah. Some 11 people have been screened, all of whom tested positive.

The Kampung Muhibbah cluster is a community cluster in Kota Tinggi, with its index case testing positive on Jan 20 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. This cluster involves a social gathering in Kampung Muhibbah, Pengerang. A total of 61 people have been screened with 19 found positive.

The Jalan Firma Tiga cluster is a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru, with its first few cases found positive on Jan 11 after a screening in a factory at Jalan Firma 3. Some 160 people have been screened, with 15 testing positive.

The Industri Apas cluster is a workplace cluster in Tawau, with its index case testing positive on Jan 16 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. The worker is an employee of a factory at Jalan Apas. A total of 51 people have been screened, with 22 found positive.

The Jalan Kerinchi cluster is a workplace cluster that involves Lembah Pantai and Titiwangsa, with its first few cases found positive on Jan 25 after a screening on the cleaners of several companies at Jalan Kerinchi. Some 87 people have been screened, with 14 testing positive.

The Bukit Palah cluster is a high-risk group cluster involving Melaka Tengah, Jasin and the Jempol district of Negeri Sembilan. The index case tested positive on Jan 25 in a close contact screening.

The cluster involves patients and health workers in Hospital Melaka at Bukit Palah. A total of 171 people have been screened, with 38 found positive.

The Kampung Pahi cluster is a high-risk group cluster in Kuala Krai. The first case was found positive on Jan 20 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms.

The cluster involves cleaners at Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra in Kampung Pahi. Some 44 people have been screened, with 18 testing positive.

The Kampung Tualang cluster is a workplace cluster involving Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus. The index case tested positive on Jan 24 in a close contact screening.

The cluster involves patients who attended a meeting in Kuala Terengganu, while the name of the cluster refers to the address house of the index patient, located in Kampung Tualang, Manir. A total of 96 people have been screened, with 32 found positive.

The Taman Bahagia cluster is a community cluster in Temerloh, with the first case found positive on Jan 20 in a close contact screening. The cluster involves workers on a flood relief mission there.

The name of the cluster refers to the locality where the index case resides. Some 69 people have been screened, with 19 testing positive.

Lastly, the Kampung Bukit Lada cluster is a community cluster in Temerloh, with the index case testing positive on Jan 11 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. The cluster’s name refers to the locality of the patient’s residence. A total of 50 people have been screened with 14 found positive.

Noor Hisham also said 10 clusters have officially ended today, which leaves 351 active clusters out of the total 746 detected.

The clusters that ended today are the Jalan Pandan, Lis Putih, Saga Tengah, Long Panji, Cahaya Mahsuri, Sandakan Prison, Pekapuri, May Indah, Bakti and Jalan Seng Construction Site clusters.
