Amanah slams PKR over party hopping

KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah Youth chief Shazni Munir Mohd has asked PKR to stop accepting its elected representatives who want to join the party.

He said PKR president Anwar Ibrahim needs to reject the culture of party hopping among the component parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH), adding that this kind of politics should be avoided.

“As a coalition partner in PH, accepting these party hoppers will only cause tensions between the parties,” he said in a statement today.

Shazni said PH must take a common stand that party hopping among elected representatives is a clear abuse of the country’s democratic system because “buying and selling” of elected representatives was a despicable and corrupt culture.

“Yesterday, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clearly stated that the party rejected party hopping aimed at weakening any party in the opposition bloc.

“However, on the same day, PKR accepted a few elected representatives from its coalition partner in Johor,” said Shazni.

Last week, Khairuddin A Rahim (Senggarang), Faizul Amri Adnan (Serom) and Muhamad Said Jonit (Mahkota) left Amanah to join PKR.

Meanwhile, Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said members had a right to air their views against the party’s cooperation with PKR in the coalition.

“We as leaders will listen. However, the party leadership has yet to sit down and discuss the views raised over the matter,” he told FMT.

He said this in response to the call by the Bukit Bintang Amanah division urging the party to review ties with its coalition partner, PKR, after it accepted the defectors.

On a related matter, Salahuddin criticised remarks by PKR Youth secretary Syukri Razab urging him to “reflect on himself” and stay away from what he described as the “two-faced” culture practised by his former party, PAS.
