Kota Kinabalu: Famous artwork named “Pillars of Sabah” at a historic site in the city has been erased, the community of artists overseeing it has lamented on Facebook.
Pillars of Sabah is a community art project that features the works of local artists in celebration of Sabah’s rich natural and cultural identity, says the community on its website.
ADVERTISEMENT It occupies the ruins of the old, colonial Lands and Surveys building in the heart of Kota Kinabalu and utilises the site’s remnant pillars to exhibit the artwork -- “each pillar featuring the unique artistic talent and style of a different artist, establishing the project’s format of 30 pillars, 30 artists.”
The artwork has been a great attraction among tourists and visitors but today, pictures have emerged showing it has disappeared from the pillars.
“Drama. Our project's journey has been a struggle,” said the community on its Facebook page today.
“This latest edition [of artwork] was a message of ‘Community’ highlighting thirty-one values to strive towards, especially in support of the underprivileged, vulnerable and marginalised, for the sake of greater community closeness. It seems this message didn't sit well with some.”

The community then bade farewell to the artwork project but said: “Pillars of Sabah will live on. Elsewhere. Away from the drama.”
Daily Express is getting a response from those concerned.
