Two women fined RM24,000 each

Kota Kinabalu: Two women were fined a total of RM24,000 each for using fake bank statements to obtain contracts to supply cooked food to hostels in Kota Belud.Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat meted out the sentence to Junaidah Majin, 44, and Rosnizah Jamilide, 31, who pleaded guilty separately to the three charges against them on Monday.ADVERTISEMENT
Junaidah was fined RM8,000 or four months’ jail for each charge against her.
On the first to third count, Junaidah used the three bank statements dated July 31, Aug 31, and Sept 30, 2016 under Damai Enterprise to obtain the tender to supply cooked food for hostel of SK Timbang, Kota Belud, from March 1, 2017 until Feb 28, 2019. She committed the offence together with her husband Mohammad Asphawi Mohd Yahya, 51, who pleaded guilty to the charges but his sentencing was deferred to Aug 4 this year.
The offence took place at the State Education Department on Nov 24, 2016.
Meanwhile, Rosnizah was also ordered to pay RM8,000 in default four months’ jail for each charge against her.ADVERTISEMENT
On the first to third count, she had used three fake bank statements dated July 31, Aug 31, and Sept 30, 2016 under Syarikat RS Marketing also for the same purpose to supply cooked food for hostel of SMK Arshad, Kota Belud from March 1, 2017 until Feb 28, 2019.
Rosnizah committed the offence together with her husband Mohd Terus Megin, 49, whose sentencing was also deferred to Aug 4 this year.

They paid the fine.
During mitigation, counsel Shahrulnizam Salleh who represented Junaidah and Rosnizah, asked for only fine to be imposed on his client saying that it was his clients first offence.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nartiah F. M. Sambatan urged the court to mete out an appropriate sentence on the grounds that both Junaidah and Rosnizah had obtained the contracts by using false documents.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
