Kota Kinabalu: A sales promoter was fined RM500 or one week jail for committing nuisance last month.

Dyg Nurul Safika Datu Zainal, 21, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to damaging a Perodua Myvi car by kicking the left side of the rear passenger door at 6.30pm on June 2 at Lorong Kali, Kg Likas.

The offence was framed under Section 6(1A) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of up to RM1,000 and up to one year jail or both, on conviction.

The prosecution in tendering the facts of the case, said the car owner found her car dented and scratches on the left door of the rear passenger seat after it was kicked by Nurul.

The loss was estimated at about RM500, the court heard.

Nurul was then arrested by police following a report lodged by the owner.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence in representing Nurul, applied for a lenient sentence on the grounds that she was a divorcee with a one-year-old one child and was the sole breadwinner as she did not receive any alimony from her former husband.

Lim added that Nurul was remanded for seven days. Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting, applied for an adequate sentence.

In another case, two people were penalised for taking syabu.

Gilbert T. Malari and Chong Tze Fah were fined RM2,000 and RM1,500 respectively or six months jail after they admitted to committing the offence at separate locations here and in Penampang.

They were charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
