Manggatal decaying power poles replaced

THE Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) had done with replacing two decayed wooden power transmission poles at Lorong Richdar Dapot 4 in Taman Richdar, Manggatal, recently.The latter had also successfully installed a canopy streetlight on one of the newly installed cement poles.ADVERTISEMENT
Their team of technicians had discovered that these poles were high time to be changed as they were slanting towards the roadway given their poor condition.
“We feared the the poles will collapse at anytime because the bottom part had severely decayed,” its spokeswoman said.
She said its team would continue to check for any similar problem on their service poles in that part of the neighbourhood.
“Similar action will be taken if we have spotted any later,” she added.ADVERTISEMENT
Meanwhile, the spokeswoman assured that its team would be asked to verify a complaint about several power cables that had detached from its socket on a cantilever ledge of a commercial building in Inanam.
SESB responded by replacing it with a new cement pole recently.
“Allow us to check on this first before commenting,” she added.

She said a quick remedial work would be carried out on their end should the jurisdiction to handle it is under their work scope.
“We will inform the rightful party about the matter if it is otherwise,” she added.
CHARLES, who complained about the road namely Lorong Richdar Dapot 4, being shrouded in darkness at night due to the absence of the canopy streetlights, feared that thieves would take advantage of the situation to commit crimes in the neighbourhood.

“I am so happy that they (SESB) not only reactivated the streetlight but they replaced the pole supporting the facility as well,” he told Hotline recently.
He said the illumination serves good purpose for the workers who come to empty the communal bin in the wee hours as well.
“It benefits road users especially the pedestrians who follow this single-carriage-road at night,” he added.
Dangerous situation: Some live power cables had detached from the ceiling of this shop’s cantilever ledge at Mile 7, Tuaran road in Inanam.
JOHNNY, who spotted the power cables hanging low on the walkway of an eatery at Mile 7, Tuaran road, recently, said the matter needs urgent attention by the relevant authority.

He said the walkway is heavily frequented by people given that it is a light industrial centre.
“We don’t want anyone to be electrocuted if the whole thing falls down later,” he added.
