PETALING JAYA: Today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting descended into a farce when it was suspended four times – and then adjourned for the day.

The Dewan will reconvene on Monday, said Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon who made a brief appearance at his chair at about 5.15pm.

The sitting had been suspended four times earlier today – at 12.30pm, 12.45pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

At about 5.15pm today, Rashid announced that the Dewan Rakyat will be adjourned at 5.30pm.

This, he said, was due to the ongoing Covid-19 testing on all MPs and staff that started at 3.30pm.

He said two more positive cases were detected from the testing.

“Those who were in Parliament on July 26 to 28 but are not in the building today will need to undergo a test,” he added.

Due to that, Rashid said under Standing Order 12 (2), the special parliamentary sitting will continue on Monday.

Chaos erupted in Parliament today after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong revealed in a statement that he had never approved for the emergency ordinances to be revoked, as announced by law minister Takiyuddin Hassan in Parliament on Monday.
