PETALING JAYA: Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin will resign as chairman of government-linked Boustead Holdings Berhad tomorrow.

He said his decision was based on Umno’s withdrawal of support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Yes, I will be resigning tomorrow,” he confirmed when contacted by FMT.

Khaled will be the second Umno leader to step down from a prominent post this week, after energy and natural resources minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah resigned yesterday in support of his party’s decision.

Others are expected to follow suit after the announcement by party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday that the party was withdrawing its support for PN.

One of them is rumoured to be higher education minister Noraini Ahmad, with reports citing claims from party insiders that she is on her way out.

Umno had earlier pulled its support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister, but said it would support the PN administration until the next general election.

That changed when Zahid in a live broadcast said his party no longer supported the ruling coalition, and that a number of Umno MPs had sent statutory declarations to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong showing that they no longer backed Muhyiddin.
