Tawau cops warn cyclists
A cyclist holds on to a truck in Tawau.
TAWAU: District Police Chief, ACP Peter Umbuas advised all cycling enthusiasts not to ignore traffic laws for their own safety and other road users because negligence due to their dangerous actions could lead to accidents or even death.

He said that although cycling  was allowed during the Covid-19 pandemic, they had to comply with the SOPs.

“I hope there won’t be any cyclists doing dangerous stunts.

“Obey the laws without inconveniencing others and avoid unwanted incidents by doing dangerous things that invite public condemnations,” he added.

Earlier, a 0.24-second video showing a cyclist holding onto a container truck in the incident at Batu 9, Jalan Apas went ‘viral’ on social media.

The video is believed to have been uploaded by road users who regretted the man’s action and has received 2.8K views so far with 17 shares.

The man’s dangerous action drew public condemnations for neglecting personal safety, in addition to inconveniencing other road users.
