PAPAR: Residents here are urged to wave the Jalur Gemilang at their respective residences to keep the Merdeka spirit alive.Industrial Development Assistant Minister cum Pantai Manis Assemblyman Mohd Tamin Zainal said doing so is one of the ways to commemorate the country’s historic day.ADVERTISEMENT
“The usual large celebrations are no longer feasible since the Covid-19 pandemic hit our country.
“Therefore, I ask the people of this district to wave the Jalur Gemilang in their respective homes to express their patriotism despite being in this challenging phase,” he said this during the Merdeka@Community Programme at Dewan Kg Kelanahan, Monday.
Meanwhile, Tamin also extended his appreciation to the Sabah Information Department (JaPen) for organising such programmes each year.
During the programme, Sabah Information Deputy Director Harun Maddasa was present to distribute Malaysian flags to the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) and to five villages namely Kg Kelanahan, Kg Takis, Kg Kelanahan Rimba, Kg Takis Tabasan and Kg Andus.ADVERTISEMENT
The Pantai Manis Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM) and Papar Information Department also presented 50 food baskets.
Meanwhile, 112 residents at Lorong Sierra 10/1B in Bandar Sierra, Kota Kinabalu, came together to express and to promote unity and patriotism by decorating their neighbourhood with the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

The gotong-royong was headed by resident, Rozlee Idris, with each resident raising funds from their own pocket money to get the necessities for their campaign which is held from Aug 31 to Sept 16.
